The Earth will survive, it is humanity that is under threat.
Learning to live sustainability as part of nature and the natural world, living as if we are part of the world – which we are, not some ruling master that sees the world as a treasure trove to be raped, pillaged and plundered, is the only way that humanity and civilisation can survive.
Understanding the world around us and the changes that we are triggering is essential. Mother Earth will only take so much punishment before she acts.
Corporations have been created as monsters without morals, economic systems ensures the need for infinite growth in a finite world, and the 1% get rich while billions of people remain in poverty. But corporations prey on base human desires and have built a narrative that greed is fine, more is better and growth is good. They have built societies that value competition over cooperation and where people ‘aspire’ for more.
Ignorance allows our civilisation to be driven by greed and want. Greed is allowed to thrive as our corporate media keep people ignorant of the world, its troubles and causes. The media ensure that most people are told narratives that suit the 1% and corporate elite. Tackle ignorance and greed cannot flourish.
A wise man once said: “‘They are Man’s,’ said the Spirit, looking down upon them. ‘And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.’” Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol.
